Splendid Little War

I think that newspapers can stir up feelings and can cause a war because the newspapers could be lying about people or what people say. I also think that newspapers or television can stir up feelings and can cause a war because the television could make commercials or can make an inappropriate statement about someone or something. Newspapers could start problems too because they can make rumors and try to accuse people when the people being accused didn't really do anything or say anything. Lastly, newspapers can start gossip.
I think if I lived in Europe I would be convinced that the U.S. became a great world power by defeating Spain because they took on a lot of people in that war. It took bravery to defeat Spain. I think that the U.S. did become a great world power because they did not back down in fighting Spain. Lastly, I think that the U.S. became a great world power by defeating Spain was because they destroyed "Maine" the boat.

Tsunami in JAPAN?!

On March 11, 2011, we currently realized that there has been a tsunami in Japan. We also know that what caused the tsunami was Japan's Magnitude 8.9/9.0 earthquake. It somehow triggered the tsunami to hit Japan. Japan isn't really coping with the whole tragedy that happened. Many/Millions of Japan's population has dropped, and many of Japan's "people" are sick. Roughly about more than 10,000 deaths and counting has occurred in Japan recently. Many people are still heart broken and since of all the destruction in Japan it has caused many people in Japan to be homeless. The nuclear plant so far has not been that well. First one of the nuclear plants has exploded leaving radioactive activity everywhere in Japan. Many maybe billions of people have been evacuated because of the radioactive activity and it can kill many Japanese people. We all hope that Japan can retaliate from the destruction soon.

Booker T. Washington & W.E.B DuBois

Booker T. Washington had a different perspective than W.E.B DuBois. Booker T. Washington wanted African Americans to be well educated to be able to become valuable members of their communities. Washington who taught himself to read, founded the Tuskegee institute in 1881. The institute taught African Americans farming and industrial skills. Washington argued that equality would be achieved when African Americans gained education. Washington emphasized economic power for African Americans.
W.E.B. DuBois also had a different perspective from Booker T. Washington. DuBois formed The NAACP (National Association for the advancement of colored people). His group remains a force of efforts to gain legal and economic equality for African Americans. DuBois focused more on training the liberal arts and in humanities. His theme was economic democracy and channeling of black power.
W.E.B DuBois concentrated on political power to gain rights for African Americans.
