Booker T. Washington & W.E.B DuBois

Booker T. Washington had a different perspective than W.E.B DuBois. Booker T. Washington wanted African Americans to be well educated to be able to become valuable members of their communities. Washington who taught himself to read, founded the Tuskegee institute in 1881. The institute taught African Americans farming and industrial skills. Washington argued that equality would be achieved when African Americans gained education. Washington emphasized economic power for African Americans.
W.E.B. DuBois also had a different perspective from Booker T. Washington. DuBois formed The NAACP (National Association for the advancement of colored people). His group remains a force of efforts to gain legal and economic equality for African Americans. DuBois focused more on training the liberal arts and in humanities. His theme was economic democracy and channeling of black power.
W.E.B DuBois concentrated on political power to gain rights for African Americans.
