The Fuel Administration was a world war 1 agency that was created on, August 23rd in 1917, under the authority of the Lever Act. The agency controlled over production, distribution, and price of coal and oil. The fuel administration was created to stimulate an increase in the production of fuel, encourage economy in consumption of fuel. What caused The fuel administration was the shortages of coal that was experienced in the winter of 1916-17. To stop the shortages of fuel & coal Woodrow Wilson started The Fuel Administration.
The fuel administration changed the U.S. because now the U.S. had complete control over the coal industry including the production, pricing, sale, shipment, and distribution phases. Although the fuel administration also included oil and natural gas, it prevented the government from having as much control over the price of oil and gas. The major effect that The fuel administration had on American people was that they were acquired and operated merchant vessels to ship men and supplies to Europe, and they ran a massive labor exchange program that matched workers and jobs around the country.
